Privacy Policy – Carbarn USA

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how Carbarn LLC, Japan ("Carbarn", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information when you use this site or our services to import a vehicle from Japan to the United States.

By using this site or placing an order, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. Carbarn operates from Japan. Because we offer goods and services to individuals in the United States, we apply the consumer privacy law of your state where it applies to us, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), alongside applicable Japanese law.

2. What Information We Collect

2.1 Personal information. To process your vehicle order and provide export services, we may collect:

  • Full name
  • Contact details (e-mail address, telephone number, delivery address)
  • Government-issued identification where export or customs documentation requires it
  • Purchase history and vehicle preferences
  • Browsing behaviour on our platform
  • Payment confirmation, processed through a secure third party

2.2 Financial information. We accept international bank transfer and credit or debit card. We do not store full card numbers; card payments are handled by our payment processor.

3. Purposes for Which We Use Your Information

We limit our collection to what these purposes require. Your personal information is used to:

  • Process your purchase, export and shipping documentation
  • Meet our obligations under Japanese export law and to provide the documents your customs broker needs for the U.S. entry
  • Operate, secure and improve this site
  • Send service notices, and optional promotional updates where you have consented

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use it for a new purpose without telling you unless the law requires or permits it.

4. Consent and Choices

Where we rely on your consent to collect, use or disclose your personal information, you may withdraw it at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer complete an order or provide part of the service.

5. Who We Share Your Information With

  • Shipping lines and logistics partners – to book and move the shipment
  • Customs brokers you appoint – to lodge the customs entry and the federal declarations
  • IT and payment service providers – to operate the platform and take payment securely
  • Japanese authorities – to comply with vehicle export regulations
  • U.S. federal authorities – where the customs entry, or a declaration on whether the vehicle may be brought in, requires it
  • Legal and regulatory bodies – where we are required to disclose by law

Where a service provider handles personal information on our behalf, we require it to protect that information by contractual means to a comparable standard.

6. Transfers Outside the United States

Carbarn is based in Japan, and our systems and service providers are located in Japan and elsewhere. Your personal information will therefore be processed outside the United States and may be accessible to the courts and authorities of the countries in which it is held, under the laws of those countries.

7. Safeguards

We protect personal information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit across the platform
  • Restricted internal access on a need-to-know basis
  • Hosting on secured servers
  • No storage of full payment credentials

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and internet-based transmission carries inherent risk.

8. Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy, or as long as export, customs, tax or accounting rules require, after which it is deleted or anonymised.

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies to keep the site working, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time; some features may then not work.

10. Your Rights

Depending on the state you live in, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you, and request access to it or a copy of it
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate
  • Ask us to delete your personal information, subject to the records we must keep for export, customs and tax purposes
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; we do not sell or share it
  • Opt out of marketing communications
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

To make a request, contact us at {supportEmail}. We respond within the time your state's law allows. Some information may be withheld where the law requires or permits it — for example, where releasing it would reveal another person's information. You may also raise a concern with your state attorney general or consumer protection office.

11. External Links

This site may link to third-party platforms. Carbarn is not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

12. Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, and we do not offer our services to anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Policy following legal or regulatory change, platform changes, or customer feedback. The current version is the one published on this site.

14. Governing Law

This Policy is governed by the laws of Japan. Nothing in this section limits the rights available to you under the privacy law of your state.
